Writing a research proposal in the very first year of your degree college can be challenging and students might feel lost and confused as to how to continue with writing a proposal, when they have never been taught to do the same.
Many a times in bachelors students are taught to write a research proposal in their bachelors, so it becomes easier for them to write one in their masters when it is most needed, but its not the case with every student and every institution. The students of the institutions where research paper writing is not taught it is possible that the students may find it quite over whelming when are asked to write one. In this article we will highlight the basics of writing a research proposal, although students should keep one important thing in mind, that even if all research writing is in way similar, different research papers for different subject may have things that are uncommon but important to include. The very first tip for students is before they sit to write a research proposal they should consult their teacher about how the research writing should be, and also students can check for themselves how a particular paper is written by referring to original and legit websites explaining the same. Format of the research writing The very first thing students needs to be aware about is the formatting of writing a research proposal. There are five important sub topics that are included while writing a research paper that is, abstract, introduction, method, result, discussion. In the abstract the students are supposed to write in short about what the paper is concerned with, on what topic does the paper talks about and which measurement scale is used for the testing of the hypothesis, also what was the result or what result is to be expected of the research. Next comes the introduction part, it is further divided into three parts that are, review of literature, research analysis and the hypothesis. The most important is writing of review of literature. Review of literature, includes exactly what the name suggests, students are supposed to go through different research papers, in order to get the support or criticism that revolves around their research hypothesis. Students should include both the negatives and positives of the research. Review of literature must include minimum of 5-6 research papers, and it is best if students go through at least 10 research papers. The greater number of papers suggest the greater reliability of the research paper, and also increases its validity. In order to find research papers students can take the help from internet, but finding a paper online is not as easy as it sounds, students will need to do a proper research as there are chances students may find fraud on unreliable papers online. There are some sites like google scholar and research gate where students can find any type of research paper that they want, students will need to enter the appropriate and apt keyword in the search box to look for the papers that will support or criticise their hypothesis. The next part is writing of research hypothesis, although it is written much later in document, research hypothesis is what the whole research revolves around, student must come up with a hypothesis that not only shows their credibility but also its related to the topic that the student has the most knowledge about since their whole research writing or proposal will be based on the hypothesis, they must have the proper knowledge for the same. For a research hypothesis there are two main components that students need to keep their focus on that is, dependent variable and independent variable. The selection of these two variables will make for a research hypothesis. After the research hypothesis is written next thing to write is the method of the research, the method will include highlighting of the independent variable, dependent variable, confounding variable, extraneous variable etc. The next thing to mention is the method of the research. The method will include how the research was or will be taken place the measurement scales used etc. After the method the result and the discussion part will be included, in the result factor, statistical analysis will also be included here. Editing and proof reading After the students have completed writing the research proposal the next step is to proof read the entire document or the content. Proof reading helps in setting the right tone to the document as well as to eliminate any manual errors that might exist. While proof reading the article students can simply use software or websites like plagiarism checker in order to check if the content that they have written is plagiarised in any form or not. The great thing about using websites for checking plagiarism is these sites not only detect the plagiarised content but it also mention the source from which the content is copied or taken from. These plagiarised checking sites also checks for grammar correction of the content. Although free sites only do a simple search but if the students can afford the premium version then the sites perform in depth grammar check that checks for grammar in detail. These websites also have the rephrasing option available with them using this rephrasing option students can rephrase the content that is plagiarised. This saves a lot of time of the students as well as increases the credibility, reliability and validity of the content. Student should always proof read the content more than once in order to make sure their content is legit and reliable and stands out from the crowd. Students should always make more than one drafts so its become easier to detect the mistakes.
